The Art of Letting Go: How to Release What No Longer Serves You.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As someone who has been exploring the path of faith and self-improvement through an Islamic lens for over a decade, I invite you to delve into the profound concept of letting go from the perspective of Islam. The art of letting go, guided by the teachings of the Quran and the Hadith, holds the potential to bring about profound spiritual growth and inner peace.

Why is letting go is important in Islam?

Islam strongly urges humans to let go of past mistakes made by themselves or others. There is no purpose in being angry by prior events and worrying about the future in Islam because everything is in Allah’s control. Simply said, you can’t worry about something that is out of your control. In our faith, the notion of ” Tawakkul ” plays a large fundamental part in our lives. You can do that by putting all your trust in him and praying, praying, praying. It is important to let go because if you get stuck in past events you don’t look forward, this is a basic human nature. We keep ourselves in a box of sadness for a very long time and then start dwelling on the past. Which is totally wrong and kind of against our faith. Our faith does not tell us to dwell on things that are not in our control which is everything. By thinking about the past non-stop we forget to understand that it’s Allah who can make us feel better. We delay our salah’s binge eating or just eat nothing. Wastes our time on pointless things like social media and whatnot, but honestly this all just harms us and that is why it is important to acknowledge our feelings and let go of the past. I understand how difficult it can be at times to do so, which is why there are some ways in Islam to find serenity while struggling to let go.

What Are Some Steps For Letting Go?

  1. TRUST IN ALLAH – The first and most crucial step is to trust in Allah, to recognize that everything is in His hands and that He is the one who will manage your affairs. Tawakkul should be kept. Know that everything that occurs now or in the future is in his divine power, and he will never commit injustice since he despises it and loves his followers more than 70 moms. So how can he possibly choose anything awful for you? “So by Allah’s mercy, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them,” the Quran says in Surah Al-Imran (3:159). And if you had been unpleasant [in speech] and harsh in your heart, they would have abandoned you. So forgive them, beg forgiveness for them, and confer with them on the topic. Always remember that everything happens, happens for a reason if not now it will make sense in the future.
  2. IDENTIFYING WHAT NO LONGER SERVES YOUR FAITH– From an Islamic perspective, it is critical to recognize things in your life that are detrimental to your religion and well-being. This includes not only bad behaviors and destructive relationships but also worldly attachments that keep you from following your spiritual path. Anything that keeps you away from following your faith is simply not good for you. Haram relationships and habits themselves can be the cause of restlessness in your heart, instead of thinking as a punishment think of it as a chance Allah is giving you to make things right and come back to him so he can forgive you, For he is the most forgiving and merciful.
  3. DUA’SUPPLICATION TO ALLAH– Talk to Allah about everything, make dua, and entrust him with all your matters. It will give a sense of security. Trust is a luxury not everyone deserves but Allah himself is trust. If you let go of all your problems and keep them under his wisdom everything will start making sense in your life. Acceptance of Good and Bad: Belief in Qadr entails acknowledging that both the good and the bad things that happen in life are a result of Allah’s omnipotent plan. It recognizes that challenges and tribulations are a necessary component of Allah’s will and have a role to play overall. Understanding Free Will: Islam recognizes human freedom of choice. Even while Allah has a divine plan, people are nonetheless capable of making decisions. They have the freedom to make these decisions. A person is therefore accountable for their deeds and decisions. Believers in Qadr are encouraged to have faith in and dependence on Allah. Muslims are urged to put up the effort, take initiative, and decide based on their own free will while eventually appreciating
